Evacuation Networks

چکیده
| Planning and design of evacuation networks is both a complex and critically important optimization problem for a number of emergency situations. One particularly critical class of examples concerns the emergency evacuation of chemical plants, high-rise buildings, and naval vessels due to re, explosion or other emergencies. The problem is compounded because the solution must take into account the fact that human occupants may panic during the evacuation, therfore, there must be a well-de ned set of evacuation routes in order to minimize the sense of panic and at the same time create safe, e ective routes for evacuation. The problem is a highly transient, stochastic, nonlinear, combinatorial optimization programming problem. We focus on evacuation networks where congestion is a signi cant problem.

متن کاملCapacity Constrained Routing Algorithms for Evacuation Planning: A Summary of Results
Evacuation planning is critical for numerous important applications, e.g. disaster emergency management and homeland defense preparation. Efficient tools are needed to produce evacuation plans that identify routes and schedules to evacuate affected populations to safety in the event of natural disasters or terrorist attacks. The existing linear programming approach uses time-expanded networks t...
متن کاملOptimal egress time calculation and path generation for large evacuation networks
Finding the optimal clearance time and deciding the path and schedule of evacuation for large networks have traditionally been computationally intensive. In this paper, we propose a new method for finding the solution for this dynamic network flow problem with considerably lower computation time. Using a three phase solution method, we provide solutions for required clearance time for complete ...

In this paper we present an emergency monitoring strategy (Predictive Simulation Reporting) using Wireless Sensor Networks that combines sensor monitoring and the prediction of future movement of occupants using a multi-agent crowd evacuation simulation operating on a resource-rich Base Station node. Sensor nodes are informed ahead of time about multiple possible evacuation scenarios that could...
متن کاملIntegrating a Simple Traffic Incident Model for Rapid Evacuation Analysis
Road transportation networks are a segment of society’s critical infrastructure particularly susceptible to service disruptions. Traffic incidents disrupt road networks by producing blockages and increasing travel times, creating significant impacts during emergency events such as evacuations. For this reason, it is extremely important to incorporate traffic incidents in evacuation planning mod...
